Who Tobey McGuire really is? With Spider-Man 3 currently playing in the local cinemas, one never stops to wonder how he currently started. Maguire’s mother was actually an 18-year-old office worker, his father a 20-year-old restaurant cook married her, and they were only briefly married a couple years after Maguire was born. His childhood was spent in Washington, Oregon, and California, including some of the seedier sections of Los Angeles. The family was occasionally on welfare, poor when he with his mother, and sometimes he was stashed with grandparents or other relatives. At 13, Maguire decided he wanted to be a “chef” like his old man. He even signed up for a home economics class, but his mother said she would give him $100 if he took a drama class instead. After ninth grade, he dropped out of high school to free his time for more acting assignments. Maguire had met Leonardo DiCaprio at casting calls, and in 1993 that friendship got Maguire a small part in DiCaprio’s This Boy’s Life. He appeared in little-known, little-seen films after that, until The Ice Storm in 1997. Subsequently he starred in The Cider House Rules and Wonder Boys. He was also stuck in time in Pleasantville, and played a jockey in Seabiscuit. After that is the audition for Spider-Man. Then, the rest is history..
