What a day..Just came back from Sepang, Kuala Lumpur. With free access to the Corporate Suite, who would refuse! Today was the qualifying round of 2007 PETRONAS Malaysian Grandprix. Just as I stepped into the gate, I could already hear the sound of the Formula One cars blazing the track and not forgetting that I was also greeted by some nice and beautiful ladies of the pitlane..ahem..haha..It was even a better day for Felippe Massa, the former Red Bull Sauber PETRONAS Driver. The Ferrari driver claimed pole position for the Malaysian Grand Prix by a solid three-tenths of a second from Fernando Alonso in the McLaren Mercedes. “After what happened to me in the last race, this makes me very happy,” Massa said in the post race press conference. “I had a very big fight with Fernando here, but I did a great lap and I am happy with that. I know it is going to be a very tough race, physically for us, but also for the cars. It is very hot and very humid. For us, inside the car, it is going to be like going racing inside a sauna!” As ever, it came down the final seconds of the third and final qualifying session to determine the grid order with first Kimi Raikkonen, then Alonso and finally Massa moving fastest. Australian Grand Prix winner Raikkonen starts third in the second Ferrari almost half a second adrift of his team-mate indicating – perhaps – that he has a little more fuel on board his F2007. Nick Heidfeld raced well for BMW Sauber to qualify in fifth position with team-mate Robert Kubica in seventh position in the second F1.07. Kubica was squeezed at the very last minute by Nico Rosberg of Williams. Otherwise it will be a third row dominated by the BMW Sauber i.e. my favourite team. CAR DRIVEN BY NICK HEIDFIELD IN 2007 MALAYSIAN GRAND PRIX
Nick Heidfeld says he is “very happy” to be starting Sunday’s Malaysian Grand Prix from fifth position after struggling with balance issues throughout free practice. Whatever it is, BMW Sauber continued to establish itself as the third force in Formula 1 in 2007 by taking fifth and seventh at Sepang – although it was further back from Ferrari and McLaren than it was in Australia. It’s the third quickest team this year in Melbourne as well as in Sepang. It’s only a matter of time before they get podium finish..I just wish Nick Heidfield could secure at least 3rd position tomorrow. Sepang is the 2nd race in 2007 Formula race calendar.
